Warne ‘Early Goal Did For Us’

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne thought it was the early goal scored by Burton Albion last night that made it difficult for the Millers.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield after the two-nil loss the Millers Boss said, ‘It was a little bit frustrating.

‘We had plenty of chances to score although I didn’t think it was working so I changed the shape and put another striker on. Then we had injuries to Shane (Ferguson) and Jordi (Osei-Tutu) down the left which definitely had an impact on us. But I still thought we’d done enough to get back into the game but it just wasn’t to be.

‘Our lads efforts were unbelievable the last twenty minutes or so but it looked like we didn’t play with the pressure of needing to win. But, in fairness to Burton they didn’t let us play anywhere near our best. They were more physical than us, more stronger than us and we found it difficult to create chances.’

Luckily, this loss hasn’t changed the table with MK Dons also losing so not able to push the Millers back down to third. We had chances – and we’ve had chances all season – but we don’t seem to be able to take them. It also looks like the teams we’ve played recently have ‘worked us out’ and know what to do to stop us, know how we take our set-pieces.

‘Our lads have had an amazing season,’ Warney carried on, ‘and it’s our job to try and put confidence into them.’

Shane Ferguson left the ground in a boot last night and things don’t look well for him while Jordi Osei-Tutu got a knock to the leg where he already has an issue with his ankle but it’s hopeful he will be fine by the weekend.
