Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans said it was a ‘big plus’ that three of the strikers scored today.

I have to hold my hand up here and say I was totally wrong when I saw the team sheet and said words to the effect, ‘three strikers starting, bet none of them score’. How wrong was I? And how pleased am I to be proved wrong.

Speaking to the Official Site after the five-two home win over Cardiff City, the Millers Boss said, ‘When we were talking through the team with the players I think they were surprised that we were starting with three strikers but that’s how we identified the way we could get at Cardiff City who are a really good club.

‘A lot of the boys had big performances today in the different shape, the different style and the different way to the two previous games. And that doesn’t mean there’s a right way or a wrong way but we have to find a winning way and get points.

‘And we had the right type of reaction today. For our first goal the movement of the strikers was great, the movement of Cohen Bramall fantastic, Arvin Appiah is brilliant. It was disappointing to get pegged bag, though it was a cheap free-kick, but you still have to defend it. Our second goal was absolutely outstanding movement with another brilliant run from Cohen whose fed off Arvin again.

‘The people who deserve the credit today are firstly the supporters who have been turning up since we’ve been relegated who deserve the utmost respect and the players who I think have enjoyed their last two weeks. ‘

Going on to talk about Viktor Johansson, Steve said, ‘He understood when I came in that it was highly probable that he would be going and he also understood that I had to do some homework into Dillon (Phillips). We’ve tried to look after him the last week or so because it could be life changing what’s might happen to Viktor but if he walks in the building at the end of June I’ll be absolutely delighted. Dillon Phillips is a number one, he just met Johansson who was number one star, star, star. We will bring in a really competent goalkeeper but we will say to Dillon it should be game on for the shirt and Dillon accepts that.’

And when will the transfers start coming in? ‘We’ve already been talking to players and their representatives this week,’ Steve said. ‘We want to bring players to this football club who will represent the shirt and the DNA which I believe should be here as well as representing the town of Rotherham.’
