After the five-two win over Cardiff City this afternoon Rotherham United held their awards ceremony on the pitch before the players, management and backroom staff did a lap of appreciation.

Honorary Life President and former Millers player and Assistant Manager John Breckin gave the awards to the respective players, the first one being for the goal of the season. Fans had five goals to choose from – Jordan Hugill’s goals against Southampton and Preston North End, the Sam Clucas goal against Sunderland, Christ Tiehi’s equaliser against Ipswich Town and Seb Revan’s goal at home against Millwall.

The trophy went to Sam Clucas whose cracker of a goal put the Millers in front against Sunderland at the New York Stadium in December.

The thirty-three year old midfielder joined Rotherham in September on a contract until the end of the season. He’s gone on to play thirty-three games missing the last three with injury.

The Young Player of the Year went to Seb Revan who came to the New York Stadium in the summer on a loan spell from Aston Villa to play his first games in senior football. Twenty year old Seb came in as a left-back but has played in a few positions since August in a Millers shirt and scored his first senior goal against Millwall in April. Seb has made thirty-seven appearances for the Millers and fast became a fans’ favourite.

Not unsurprisingly the Player of the Season and the Players’ Player of the Season was Goalkeeper Viktor Johansson.

Viktor joined Rotherham in September 2020 from Leicester City and was soon having his name sang by the Millers adoring fans. Soon becoming Number One Viktor has played in one hundred and thirty-four games for Rotherham and has always time for the fans. We are all expecting him to go on to better things in the summer – although in his speech today he didn’t say that was set in concrete – and I know we will all miss him but wish him all the best.

The awards are sponsored by The Fire House Group.

Well Done to Viktor, Seb and Sam!
