Warne ‘Disappointed’ With Last Night’s Game

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne wasn’t over impressed with his team yesterday after their pre-season friendly with neighbours Doncaster Rovers.

Speaking to iFollow after last night’s two-all draw the Millers Boss said, ‘We weren’t as good as I’d have liked and out of possession I thought we were really poor.

‘It was disappointing but we’ve come through injury free which makes a nice change.

‘Over all I’m disappointed with the performance but fair play to Donny who played really well but I would expect more from our team.

‘We are screaming out for new bodies, new enthusiasm in the team which was evident tonight.’

Asked about those ‘new bodies’ Warne said, ‘I think we are still a few players short but I think I have a centre-half joining us on Thursday. I thought I had a midfielder coming too, which is something that’s been going on for about four weeks, but it looks like another Championship club has nicked him at the last moment. We obviously need more umph up top and we are on a real active drive to get another striker. At the moment we haven’t got enough bodies to play in their right positions but everybody is trying to help but we just can’t get people in.

‘I’d be amazed if we get five in before the start of the season but we may get two or three. I know where we are in the pecking order and that we have to be patient. We try so hard to get signings in, it’s a never ending thing. Unfortunately, the real reality is that sometimes we get gazumped. And it’s just not a financial gazumping, it’s a club gazumping with other clubs being more attractive to some players. I’m hopeful we can get some in before next week but then that leaves you very little time to work with them. It’s been a frustrating window.’

Going on the talk about injuries, the Boss said, ‘It’s a big blow losing Tommy (Eaves) but we’ve now got Jamie McCart and Shane Ferguson back in training and we should have T (Tolaji Bola) back and next week Conor Bramall. JJ will be out for five to six weeks which is a blow.’

He did say that there are ‘no bids’ on the table for any of our players at this time saying, ‘we want to add to the group not take any away. But there are four or five weeks left in the window and anything could happen.’
