Friday night sees Rotherham United welcome Wigan Athletic to the New York Stadium for a first v second League One tie.

Rotherham come into this on the back of six league wins the last one being on Sunday when they overcame local rivals Sheffield Wednesday  -plus the pitch – at Hillsborough to win two-nil. This will be just their second home game in February the other being a hard fought victory over Accrington Stanley.

Wigan’s last away game was also at Hillsborough with a penalty for the hosts the only goal separating the two while they got a two-nil home victory against Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday night to see them pull closer to the Millers with six points the difference although the Latics have two games in hand.

The Millers have injury problems at the moment with Rarmani Edmunds-Green, Mickel Miller and Will Grigg all missing. Ollie Rathbone will be pushing for a start after overcoming a back injury to come off the bench on Sunday.

Millers Boss Paul Warne said he has been lucky enough to watch Wigan live a couple of times recently telling IFollow it’s a game that both teams should want to win. ‘We are well aware of their threats,’ Warne said. ‘ Whether we will have enough to stop those I don’t know but whether they will have enough to stop our threats I don’t know. We are playing an inform side who have goals throughout the team. If we can win then it will send us into the weekend not so panicky with everyone else’s results. But I’m not looking at first and second spots it’s third and fourth spots I’m concerned with. It should be a good game if the latest hurricane doesn’t spoil it.’

Our visitors will be without  Thelo Aasgaard for the rest of the season with a stress fracture while midfielder Jordan Cousins is still missing. Left-back Tom Pearce is also a major doubt.

Speaking to Latics TV forward Callum Lang said that the team are looking forward to the game saying, ‘It’s going to be a massive game and hopefully we can put on a good performance and send the fans home happy. They (Rotherham) have got a lot of good players who are in form, but so have we.’

The referee for this game is Lancashire’s Jeremy Simpson.
