Rotherham United striker Freddie Ladapo opened the scoring for the Millers in their two-nil win over his former club Plymouth Argyle yesterday

Speaking to Radio Sheffield after the first game of the season the twenty-eight year old forward said that it couldn’t have been a better start to the season for him saying, ‘It reminds me a lot of the last season we were in League One where I scored the first goal of the season which got us of to the start we wanted. I feel I need to get off the mark early. I pride myself on scoring goals so I was very happy to get it.

‘I thought the performance today was professional, especially in front of the Rotherham fans, and we are only going to get better.’

Freddie started his football career with Colchester United making a handful of League One appearances before having loan spells and then moving to non-league sides. March 2016 saw him sign a two-and-a-half year deal with Crystal Palace and had loan spells back in League One with Oldham and Shrewsbury. He played one Premier League game for Palace coming off the bench at Old Trafford in September 2017 before joining first Southend United then Plymouth where he scored nineteen goals (so I fail to see why their fans were singing he wasn’t good enough?). He joined the Millers in the summer of 2019 and scored seventeen goals that first season and nine last season in the Championship.

The Plymouth fans had been on the strikers back before he scored the goal which Freddie laughed off saying, ‘when I won the corner for us they were saying things like ‘you’re not good enough’ so it was nice to give it back to them in the way I did.’
