Stats – Millers v Plymouth

Rotherham United got three points from their first game of the season beating Plymouth Argyle two-nil at the New York Stadium.

But the Millers didn’t have it all their way yesterday with the stats telling us that Plymouth had sixty-one per cent of the possession. I thought that was a bit harsh until I remembered all the play they had in midfield where it seemed easy – too easy? – to pass the ball around. In the duels success rate Rotherham faired better and winning sixty-nine per cent of the aerial battles.

Corner kicks went to the hosts too winning ten to eight – think we could actually do a bit more from corners once the ball is in the box – while our passing accuracy came out at fifty-seven per cent in our opponents half and our crossing accuracy was twenty-four per cent.

The Millers had eighteen shots at goal of which six were on target to Argyle’s two on target from seven shots. Referee Seb Stockbridge game sixteen fouls against the Rotherham – though, personally, I thought half of those were actually players throwing themselves at the feet of our players, but what do I know – while he gave seven against the Pilgrims. We also had two players booked – Barlaser and Lindsay.

All in all I don’t think it was a bad day at the office. We got minutes into three of our new signings, Rathbone, Odoffin and Ferguson coming off the bench and I’ve not heard of any new injuries which is always a bonus.
