Warne ‘We Weren’t At Our Best’

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne said that one of his worries before yesterday’s game was conceding an early goal.

And the Millers conceded two in less than nine minutes.

Speaking after the four-three win the Millers Boss told iFOLLOW that his first reaction was one of relief.

The Millers found themselves three down against the National League side and, to be honest, never really looked like scoring until …. well, until what? The subs? The players suddenly woke up? I can’t honestly say. But, once Rotherham were on top there really was only going to be one team winning that game yesterday.

‘We’d prepared the team as we always do,’ Warney said, ‘but I was always worried about conceding an early goal. But I thought they (Solihull) played really well and stopped us getting the ball out wide and creating crosses and goal scoring opportunities.’

Let’s be fair, if you hadn’t known you wouldn’t have been able to tell which were the League One side and which were the non-league side in those first forty-five minutes, maybe even the first hour.  But, all due to the Millers for getting themselves back into the game and then for keeping at it and going on to win.

‘From coming back from three-nil to win four-three gives the team great pride,’ the Gaffer said. ‘But I don’t think we were at our best tonight.’

Let’s hope the Millers learn something from tonight and go into the next games on the front foot from the start of the ninety and not having to keep coming back from a losing position.  (Although, saying that, if it works …..)
