Warne ‘My Lads Put An Enormous Shift In’

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne told IFollow that he can’t believe his team came away with nothing from Oakwell today saying that the opposition Manager even said the Millers should have won.

Speaking after the one-nil loss to Barnsley the Millers Boss said, ‘There can’t be many games where we’ve had more attempts on goal or more clear cut chances. I don’t even think a draw would have been fair on us we should have got all three points. We’ve come to a team today who are flying who are full of confidence yet so are our lads are but our results don’t show it.

‘I have nothing but respect for my dressing room but it’s just a bit unfortunate that when we need that little bit extra in and around the six yard box we didn’t get it.

‘Normally you get rewarded for the effort you put in. My lads put an enormous shift in against a team that no-one wants to play against in this league because they out-run and out-fight every team. I thought we were significantly the better side in every department except in the final six yards. We’ve come to a team today who are flying who are full of confidence yet so are our lads are but our results don’t show it.

The Millers have had a tough month – playing eight already and one to go – with the Gaffer saying after all that the amount of effort his players are still putting in shows how much they want to stop up.

He also chose to talk about goalkeeper Viktor Johansson who went off after two minutes with concussion and will probably now have to miss ten days due to the concussion protocol saying, ‘Viktor is not a shrinking violet and for him to go off through an elbow early in the game and which is how we lost the game stinks massively.’ He was also asked why the appeal against Matt Crooks’ red card was unsuccessful and said he didn’t actually know but, ‘It was something to do with dangerous play, out of control. Wow. The game has gone for me.’

Our Manager sounded so down, so defeated giving that interview. I’m only a fan and I feel so angry about the Crooks decision and really, really annoyed that today’s goal was allowed to stand – and, no, I don’t think it was done on purpose it was an accident on our ‘keeper but so was the Crooks on Hall on Wednesday night.

We needed to take the chances we had today but it was good to see the players fighting for every ball and trying to win every corner, every throw-in. Now we have to pick ourselves up and go again on Tuesday evening.
