So What’s Next?

Rotherham United were promoted on Tuesday to the Championship and, although the celebrations might have been a bit more muted than they usually would have been, every Miller’s fan can feel elated.

We ‘finished’ the season in second place three points ahead of third placed Wycombe Wanderers.

So now we know what division we will start next season in (whenever it may start) what happens next?

Well, I suppose it will be tying players down, telling some players that their services are no longer needed and looking to fetch in new players.

We know Rotherham Manager Paul Warne doesn’t like to have a big squad, he doesn’t like to have players kicking their heels sitting in the stands on match day but I do think we are going to need a few more bodies in the dressing room next season.

I’m not saying we need a lot more players but maybe a couple more.

I found it a bit worrying at some stages of last season when two or three players were injured at the same time and, next season, it will be a bit embarrassing if we can’t name the number of available substitutes on the bench.

And I was a bit puzzled that we didn’t bring through more of our younger players although I don’t think that will be the right thing to do in the Championship.

Whatever and whenever things start up again for the Millers we do know that we will have to get a foothold in the Championship from the first game, we’ve got to prove to ourselves, the other teams in the league and probably most important the teams we’ve left behind in League One.

We all know that Warney won’t fetch in anyone who he doesn’t think will be an asset in the dressing room. He likes to know his players and I suppose the more you have the less you know about each one.

For now we can only speculate on ‘what’s next’ for the Millers – I suppose the first thing we need to do is get a date for the start of the new season.

Stay Safe.

Up The Millers.
