Quick Preview – Millers v Derby

|

Rotherham United welcome Derby County to the New York Stadium this evening for this re-arranged game which was originally scheduled for mid-December.

The Millers come into this tie on the back of a home defeat to high flying Swansea City while Derby won at home against Bristol City at the weekend. The Rams last game away from home was a one-nil win at Queens Park Rangers, in fact they haven’t actually lost a game since Rotherham took all three points at Pride Park last month.

With the transfer window coming to a close last night the Millers have just one new addition to the squad fetching in Lewis Wing from Middlesbrough but County had a busy day fetching in five –  Manchester United defender Teden Mengi, Stoke striker Lee Gregory, Rangers centre-back George Edmundson, Everton midfielder Beni Baningime and Manchester City winger Patrick Roberts.

Rotherham come into the game hoping to move out of the relegation zone, depending on other games, while the Rams are looking more comfortable than when the game was originally scheduled in nineteenth place.

The Millers welcome Dan Barlaser back to the squad after a spell of self-isolation but there is one ‘big hitter’ that is doubtful, though no name has been forthcoming. Also missing is Flo Jozefzoon who can’t play against his parent club.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield Gaffer Paul Warne said, ‘Derby have improved since we last met them and are on a good run. After losing to us they changed their system and have gone on to do really well. We need to play with confidence and reduce them to few chances.

Krystian Bielik is a major doubt for the visitors after being stretchered off at the weekend with a knee injury.

Derby Manager Wayne Rooney says he knows this game is going to be an important game. Speaking to their Official Site the Rams’ Boss said, ‘We are going into this game high in confidence but we know this is going to be a tough game.’

Refereeing tonight’s game is Lancashire’s Jeremy Simpson.

Tonight’s game is a 7pm kick-off.
