Rotherham United’s first step into cup competitions starts this evening when they travel to take on Port Vale.

Vale, who came up to League One via the play-offs at the end of last season, come into this game with a four-nil away loss against Exeter although their home game on the first week of the season was a two-one win over Fleetwood Town.

The Millers have only played once in the Championship so far this season, a one-all draw at the New York Stadium against Swansea City, with their game at the weekend away at Coventry being called off with the pitch ‘unplayable’.

Former Miller Jamie Proctor is set to play but another ex-Miller, David Worrell, missed out on Saturday so will be assessed before this game. Also not expected to take part is James Wilson who missed the first two games of the season with a knock.

Darrell Clarke, Vale Manager, told their Official Site that Saturday’s performance wasn’t good enough saying, ‘so the shirts are up for grabs for this and Saturday’s league game.’

Paul Warne has hinted that he will change the squad for tonight’s game to get minutes into players. Josh Kayode and Tom Eaves are definitely out with a hamstring and calf injury and Hakeem Odoffin is a doubt with a leg problem.

‘Port Vale did really well last year and started well this time,’ Millers Manager Paul Warne told iFollow. ‘Like us they play well out of possession, want to cross the ball and are good on set-pieces. To be fair, I like everything about the club. I know it will be a tough game with a lot of one v one all over the pitch.’

Robert Madden from East Kilbride is tonight’s referee.
