Four Weeks On

Rotherham United’s season finished just four weeks ago (doesn’t it seem longer?) and this week we’ve been hearing quite a lot from the management team.

Firstly though we now know which teams the Millers will be facing with Tranmere Rovers beating Newport County in the League Two Play-Off Final to get promoted and the League One Play-Off Final being decided when Charlton Athletic scored in time added on to leave Sunderland in the same division as Rotherham for the coming season.

Transfer wise the Millers haven’t added anybody but any thoughts of Richie Towell making a permanent move to South Yorkshire were well and truly squashed when he decided to join newly promoted to League Two side Salford City.

We have heard from Rotherham’s second in command Richie Barker who says that bids have been made for potential players with it being hoped that talks could start as early as next week with targets.

It is thought that two of those targets could be former loanees Tom Adeyemi and Grant Ward who were both released by Ipswich Town at the end of the season.

With it looking more and more likely that Jon Taylor and Ryan Williams will be leaving, while rumours are that neighbours Doncaster Rovers are looking at Joe Newell, the Millers Head of Recruitment Rob Scott also said that plans were afoot for replacements if needed.

The new home shirt for next season went on sale yesterday (Saturday) and, so far, seems to have got mixed reviews from Millers fans. Meanwhile, the club have announced that CR Civil Engineering Ltd will be sponsoring the back of the away shirts.

The club told us that season ticket sales have passed the five thousand mark.

Away from the Millers it has been announced that the EFL and Carabao have announced a two-year extension to their partnership that will see the ‘League Cup’ have the official name of the Carabao Cup until 2022.

So, what will next week bring? New players in? Players out? Or just rumours?
