Rotherham United have made the decision to use the extension options on the contracts of both Ollie Rathbone and Hakeem Odoffin.

Both Ollie, who now wears the captains armband, and Haks joined the Millers in August 2021 from signing three year contracts which would have run out this summer but both had an extra tweleve months clause written into their contracts.

Midfielder Ollie joined from Rochdale making his debut off the bench in a two-nil League One home game against Plymouth and has made another one hundred and thirty-five appearance, one of those at Wembley in the Football League Trophy Final win.

Twenty-six year old defender Haks was bought for an undisclosed fee from Scottish outfit Hamilton Academical also making his debut off the bench in the game against Plymouth and has gone on to play in eighty-six games scoring nine times, four of those this season.

Many clubs now use this extra year clause to ensure that they keep the player at the club so they can continue to negotiate contract terms while also making sure the player can’t leave as a free agent, which we’ve seen not so long ago with some of our players.
