Rotherham United will be taking their place in the Championship next season and yesterday found out that Sunderland, who beat Wycombe Wanderers in the Play-Off Final at Wembley, will be joining them.

So, now we are just awaiting today’s Premier League results to see who moves down into that final spot.

As it stands at the moment it’s either our West Yorkshire neighbours Leeds United or Burnley from Lancashire.

The side from Turf Moor are only above the relegation lines due to goal difference – minus eighteen – and know they have to do better or equal to Leeds to stay up. They have the advantage of a home game with Newcastle United the visitors although the Magpies have had a resurgence of late, their only two losses lately being against the top two. Leeds’s goal difference is minus thirty-eight and travel to Brentford who haven’t lost at home since Newcastle beat them at the end of February.

But who would the Millers rather take on?

Thirty-six league games have been played between Rotherham and Leeds with the team from Elland Road winning seventeen to the Millers’ fifteen. Last time the pair met was in January 2019 at the New York Stadium when the visitors came back from a Semi Ajayi goal for the hosts to win two-one. The Millers were relegated that season and Leeds lost in the semi-finals of the play-off after finishing the season in third place.

Burnley and Rotherham have met in twenty-two League games the Millers winning eleven to the Clarets’ eight. February 2016 saw the pair meet last was a Championship game at Turf Moor which was a two-nil win for the hosts. Rotherham finished just above the relegation places, although nine points ahead of Charlton who went down. Burnley were promoted as champions to the Premier League staying there ever since with the 2018/19 season seeing them enter the Europa League.

So, who will we meet? We will get to know around 6pm this evening.
