Rotherham United winger Chieo Ogbene unsurprisingly has other clubs ‘keeping an eye on him’ but has said that he won’t be going anywhere just to be a ‘bench-warmer’ – if he goes anywhere at all.

The twenty-five year old’s three year contract is up shortly but the Millers have activated the twelve month extension they have on that and should it be that Chieo does decide to leave I’m certain the club won’t let him go unless it’s for big bucks.

The Irish Examiner is linking Swansea City with the Republic of Ireland winger with the player himself saying that the Millers are aware that he wants to ‘reach the next level.’

‘I am quite happy at Rotherham,’ Chieo said, ‘and although my future is unknown right now I am a Rotherham United player, but they know I am quite ambitious, but I’m not going to settle to be a bench-warmer somewhere else . They have said that if someone gives me the opportunity to operate at the level I want to, they won’t stand in the way.’

Personally I think it’s good that Chieo is ambitious and wants to better himself but also good that he won’t be going somewhere where he won’t get the game time he wants. I’d like to think we will see him in a Rotherham United shirt next season and if he does stop at the New York Stadium, depending on how we are going, how the clubs ambition is, I would imagine the January transfer window could be interesting.

Chieo also said, ‘I can’t say what the future holds but I’m confident we have the team at Rotherham to stay up if we were to go for it. We have proved people wrong before.’

I like that ‘we’.
