Warney ‘We Went Toe-to-Toe For Most Of Game’

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne said he thought his teams performance was ‘ace’ last night.

Speaking after the two-nil defeat away to Aston Villa the Millers Boss told Radio Sheffield, ‘I thought we went toe-to-toe for the majority of the game.’

Actually, I’d have to differ with that. In the first half I thought Villa, without having to do too much, were far superior to us. The second half was different and we seemed more positive and I thought we might have got back into the game until Villa scored their second.

Now Warney says he brought on three attacking subs. Not saying he didn’t but he took Kyle Vassell, who I thought was causing Villa a lot of problems, off and brought on Jon Taylor. He took off Ryan Manning, who didn’t quite live up to his last two games for me and brought on Jamie Proctor who also, for me, didn’t live up to what I’d expect of a fresh substitute. Then off came Ryan Williams who was, I believe, the quickest Millers player on the pitch, for Anthony Forde – like for like in my book.

One of my worries is that we are getting chances and still not scoring goals. Some of those chances weren’t difficult. Our goals for isn’t the best and yet, as I said, the chances this season have been there.

My other worry is that with not such a big squad, three games in seven days, two of those on the road, is going to tell and who have we got to freshen things up for our trip to Nottingham Forest?

Villa Manager Steve Bruce told their Official Site that it was a ‘comfortable victory’ for his side last night.

‘They (Rotherham) asked us questions and we responded to it well.’
