Warne Won’t Fault Players Efforts

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne couldn’t fault his make shift team this evening despite losing two-one at home to local rivals Barnsley and praised them for their efforts.

‘There is no way I’m going to knock them,’ the Gaffer told Radio Sheffield.

The Millers have been suffering with Covid-19 in the camp with some players on the pitch this evening who haven’t trained since 18th December while others have had minimal training in the past eleven days with Warney saying he knew tonight’s eleven wouldn’t be as sharp as he’d have liked but was pleased that some of the lads who played tonight did so for the club and, in better circumstances, probably wouldn’t have even been on the bench.

‘I thought we started well and their ‘keeper pulled off an amazing save before Woodrow took his goal really well and scored a good second goal,’ Warney said. ‘Their work rate is excellent. We started the second half really well and, with all things considered, I think we probably did enough to get a point.’

That was my thought too – yes we might have let more goals in but we also had chances to score (how many times have we said that this season, well for more season’s than I care to recall).

The Gaffer says he was a bit frustrated with the officials this evening and I have to say he did seem to favour Barnsley a little although he is not the reason we didn’t get anything tonight.

We now have to try and get our players back up to speed for the visit of Cardiff City on Saturday – although I didn’t think we were slow tonight – but perhaps we need to be a little sharper, a bit better at passing.
