The bragging rights of this evening’s South Yorkshire derby at the New York Stadium went to Barnsley who, despite the Millers probably having the better of the second half, won two-one.
Possession wise Rotherham United just edged it coming out with fifty-two per cent to the Tykes’ forty-eight and the Millers won a bigger percentage of the duels both on the ground and in the air. And, we also won five-one on corners.
Both sides passing accuracy comes in at forty-seven per cent with Barnsley just having the better of the passing accuracy in their opponents half – by one per cent.
We had ten shots at goal with five on target while the visitors three on target came from seven shots. Barnsley gave away thirteen fouls with the Millers giving away one more while the four yellow cards saw Rotherham get three of them.
So, looking at those stats the teams are pretty much equal. But Barnsley scored twice and Rotherham just once – and, in this game, that is the most important stat of all.
It wasn’t a great game – we couldn’t fill our bench (I think we were lucky to get eleven players out there in the first place with what’s been going on) but fair dibs to Barnsley they took their first two chances and although we ‘bothered’ them a bit in the second half they were good on the break.
It’s horrible seeing us in the bottom three and the teams around suddenly seem to have found a bit of form so I’m really hoping we have a bit of luck and manage to pull ourselves out of there before the end of the season.
