Warne ‘We Gave A Good Account Of Ourselves’

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne again said that his team have to ‘take their chances’ after yet another one-nil defeat, this time away to Brentford.

‘Against a very, very good team I thought we started the game really well,’ the Gaffer told iFollow tonight. ‘But we are snatching at shots and have to take our chances and needed a goal early on when we had the pressure. Brentford had a lot more cutting edge than us in the final third. I just think our finishing in the final third, when we have good opportunities, we sometimes let teams off the hook.

‘The lads are exhausted and I can’t knock their effort from box-to-box but they (Brentford) are a little bit better in that box although I thought we gave a good account of ourselves. But the sad reality is we need points.’

This one was always going to be a tough game but I didn’t think we did that bad at all. We kept the team going into the play-offs down to one goal and, to be honest, I think that could have been avoided. And, like Warney says, we had chances but again didn’t take them. I think we are trying too hard not to lose that the players panic in front of goal and, like someone in the Sky studio said today (sorry, can’t remember which one it was) at least we are having chances, we are still trying, we haven’t given up. Which, in my way of thinking, makes me think that these players care about our football club.

But, when the dust has settled and the season has come to an end nobody will be remembering the chances we had, the times we outplayed some of the teams at the top, the goals we nearly scored they will just look and see how many points we have on the board – and that isn’t looking good is it.

Three games to save our season – can we do it?

For all that I keep hearing warney keep going on about how we’ve given a good account of ourselves even after tonights game our last 5 losses by a one goal margin the fact of the matter is year in year out promotion relegation we’re are simply not good enough for the championship too good for league 1 but not good enough for the championship. Simple as that we cannot financially compete with this league tge manager knows it so does the chairmen. We’re are a small club and that’s it. I want to know if Mr Stewart can recollect when we first got back in tge championship when he said we can gain promotion to the Premier league….. So never happening unless the Saudies take over 😂😂. I for one find it very painful watching rotherham play in the championship roll on league 1.there isn’t the money to buy a decent striker which we need to bag us 20 goals a season. To finish of how does warney feel about players like carlton Morris and Johnson Clarke Harris now coming to fruition since letting them go.

    • Caz Neale (Herringthorpe) says:

Morris left the Millers, as far as I recall, wanted him to stay but he wanted to play down South. And although Clarke-Harris is banging in the goals he is banging in the goals for a League One side, albeit a League One side who will probably be in the Championship next season. I think we’ve had a disappointing season Lee but you’ve said it yourself we are too good for League One and not good enough for the Championship – but, in reality, I can’t see anyone with gold to spare taking over at the NYS, can you? I think we all had the eye rolling moment when we heard the Chairman say those words about getting to the ‘promised land’ all, in our hearts, knowing it was never going to happen (although, of course, had the Super League happened … well, maybe not). For me being a Miller is having the ups and the downs and the maybe’s which are usually followed by the disappointments, of which this season, for me is one of them.

Sorry but absolute rubbish. “Too good for League 1…”!!!??? You’re having a laugh. This club will not be promoted from League 1 in the next decade.

    • Caz Neale (Herringthorpe) says:

Kevin, I think we could do with a couple of seasons in League One to get a team sorted. Personally, and it is only my thoughts, the last twice we went up we went up too early. On the other hand it at least gives the players a taste of Championship football, though I don’t expect most of them to be here next season if we go down.

Not sure what fans were expecting for this season, calls for warney & Stewart out again, totally agree wi false promises but sorry lads call yourselves miller’s what a laugh, after the 12mnths we’ve had I like the way this football club is run, so what if we go dwn what did u honestly expect??, league 1 wages & staff, so we possibly lose smudge/crooks then we go again, financially this club is sound, yep wud like one r two more risks but one wrong manager then I wud like the boo boys to explain what went wrong??

        • Caz Neale (Herringthorpe) says:

Like ninety-nine per cent of everything in life these days, it’s all down to money isn’t it.

  • carlton in lindrick says:

caz to many loose passes lose the ball all the time defence poor at times. 19 one nil defeats it a regular scorer we could do with a regular scorer would have sored a few in 19 one nil defeats I dont think as things are we will be any good in league one C IN L

    • Caz Neale (Herringthorpe) says:

You are right CinL we need a regular scorer, an Alfie type player who just stays in and around our box to collect and put it in the net. But I don’t think any team play with that sort of striker any more. Yes, we haven’t scored the goals we should have but some of the defending hasn’t been brilliant either. I fail to see, and have for some years, why we don’t put a player on the back post to defend – but perhaps that’s not the modern way either.

It’s time for a change ! The warne tenure as run its course ! Who can take over at the NYS is anybody’s guess but it must happen sooner rather than later , listening to the excuses trotted out by calamity warne is painful and also a telling sign he as lost is way at Rotherham united , the millers will sell in the close season and you can bet will spend nothing ,the covid outbreak as hit clubs hard with the millers no exception , it maybe sometime before the millers win another bite at the championship , we have tried and we have failed abysmally , time for a major shakeup ,thanks for your effort warne but all things come to a end

  • carlton in lindrick says:

well caz thats me done after 60 plus years as millers fan cant belive the charman says warnes staying for next season R U F C wont be getting any more of my money C IN L

  • Daz says:

Best news I’ve heard all day warney has backin hope he excepts fantastic, great job miller’s thro trying times utm

  • carlton in lindrick says:

daz how you can be glad warne is staying Ill never no under warnes control they have lost26 games and drawn 6 at any other club he would have been sacked long ago. tony stewart wont admit he is a failed picking him . he isa cheap option good managers would cost more money. thats why he is keeping him. 65 years i have supported rotherham and never known them keep a crap manager so long C IN L

  • Daz says:

Nearly 50yrs here, & this must b the first time we’ve started t develop our own & make low league players better & make profit on players, all players that will possibly leave this year go with blessing because will make money on them, the miller’s r still a very good league 1 side no matter what numpties say, & will always struggle in champs we do not have the fan base for champs this club is as stable as it ever as been, if you r aggrieved because results matter t you then you r certainly at the wrong club, miller’s will always struggle financially this is as good as it gets but we r in fine fettle.
