Warne Says It Was ‘A Wonder Goal’ That Beat The Millers

|

Rotherham United came away with nothing from today’s game against Millwall when, really, and I don’t think I’m looking at this with my red-and-white tinted specs on, we should have got a point. It was another one-goal defeat against, what the Millers Manager Paul Warne called a ‘very good Millwall side’.

Speaking after the defeat at the Den the Millers Boss told Radio Sheffield that he didn’t think his team started the game well but got better as it went on.

‘It was a scrappy game,’ the Gaffer said, ‘We had a couple of chances and had a legitimate claim for a penalty when Freddie (Ladapo) had his shirt pulled. Millwall started really well again in the second half and the sending off of Woody (Richard Wood) was a hammer blow. It was a wonder goal from Wallace that took the tie in their favour.’

As a spectator watching on my laptop first I thought Freddie wouldn’t have gone down like that in the first half but then seeing it back I wasn’t quite sure if it was a spot-kick. Had it been given then I think it could have been called ‘soft’.

I also agree with Warney and I think we did get better as the game went on. Going down to ten obviously knocked us sideways a bit but towards the end we still were trying to find that equaliser.

The Millers made two changes within a couple of minutes of the sending-off and then another three a little later with the Gaffer saying he made changes to try and get back in the game but also had an eye on the next two games saying, ‘it’s about everybody playing a part and the subs who went on had a positive impact.

‘The elephant in the room is obviously the missed penalty which would have been a very good point today and is disappointing.

‘But you’ve just got to let it go because we’ve another game in a couple of days and it’s another big game.’

Wasn’t the penalty more of a good save than a miss? I thought Smudge hit it hard enough but maybe telegraphed which way he was striking it?

The Gaffer also said that there is no complaints about the red card saying it was a ‘nailed on red card’. And it was, wasn’t it. But such a disappointment that we lose our skipper for three games when we really need him on the pitch.
