Warne Pleased With Win But Not Performance

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne thought the conditions at Blundell Park, which included the length of the grass, was a bit difficult for his players today.

Speaking to IFollow after the one-nil win against Grimsby this afternoon the Millers Boss said, ‘Hursty (Paul Hurst) has his team organised and they were really up for the game but we managed to keep a clean sheet, though I’m not sure how. To come away with a one-nil win might have been a bit flattering and it was pleasing but the performance wasn’t great.

‘The team as a whole is crying out for new blood and hopefully we can get two or three or maybe four in next week. But no-one will get picked on reputation they are going to have to perform no matter who they think they are.

‘No disrespect but we should really be coming to Conference sides and winning but I know that pre-season games are a bit of a leveller. We are winning games but not as great as I would like.’

Defender Michael Ihiekwe scored the only goal of the game this afternoon, which is three goals in three which will boost his confidence.

Although there were no new injuries during the game it appears that Joe Mattock was suffering with ‘a problem’ before the game.
