Rotherham United played out a goalless draw with Birmingham City at the New York Stadium yesterday, but what do the stats say?
The Millers had forty-seven per cent of the attack and won fifty-one per cent of all duels while coming out with a fifty-two per cent success in the aerial duels.
Of the thirteen corners yesterday the Millers won seven of them (and sometimes got past the first defender sorry, just one of my bugbears.)
Both teams had a fifty-seven per cent accuracy in passing in their opponents half while the Millers crossing accuracy was just eight per cent – half of that of the Blues.
Yesterday Rotherham had eleven shots at goal, five from inside the box, of which four were on target while City had two on target from six shots.
We made fifteen tackles, one more than our visitors, with a sixty-seven per cent success rate. I did notice that we were tackling better yesterday. We gave away – allegedly – sixteen fouls to Birmingham’s eleven and of the six yellow cards the Millers got four of them.
Whether it was the euphoria surrounding the return of Steve Evans and Paul Raynor I don’t know but we did seem to pull together better as a team yesterday. Fair enough we didn’t score but we did go forward and not so much of the passing back all the time. That has to be a plus.
But, of course, football went out of the window when the gentleman in the Family Stand was taken ill and we all hope he is going on OK. I’d like to praise all the medical staff who helped in this difficult situation and to the fans of both teams who for those minutes stood as one.
