Warne ‘Performance Was Good’

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne told iFOLLOW that he actually felt happier this week despite the loss than he did after the win last week.

‘It might sound odd,’ the Millers Boss said after their one-nil home loss to Millwall, ‘but I thought our performance was really good.’

I have to sort of agree with the Gaffer in the fact that the performance was better – much better – than last weeks drab affair but, again that old record is turning, we didn’t take the chances we had.

‘I think our lads can take loads of confidence from today,’ said Warney, ‘because there were some outstanding performances. But, it is about taking chances and unfortunately we gave them their’s. And it’s obviously disappointing to come away with nothing.’

The Millers were at home although I don’t think in these present times that makes a lot of difference. The commentators on the live game hit the nail on the head I think when they said in the final five minutes, when the players were running towards the ‘home’ end, that if the crowd had been in then they would have been shouting them on, begging them to score and that might just have made a difference.

I agree again with Warney when he says that Millwall defended well but I thought there was a little bit missing today, a couple of players maybe having an off day, maybe coming to terms with the quiet stadium. But there were players who gave us hope, gave us optimism. I thought both MacDonald’s had a good first half and Mattock had a good game too and enjoyed watching the quickness of Chieo Ogbene down the wing . New boy George Hirst probably has a lot to live up to being the son of that father and I think, though could well be wrong, that he might start next week.

We aren’t going to win every game we play, we have to be more clinical in the box and perhaps we have to shoot more instead of passing but I’m sure that will come.

Up The Millers.
