Warne ‘Not At Our Sharpest But It’s All About Winning’

|

Two goals from Michael Smith and a winner from Freddie Ladapo brought a smile to Millers fans this afternoon although, to be fair, it was a result that had to be fought for against a determined Burton Albion side at the New York Stadium.

Speaking after the three-two win Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne told iFOLLOW that he didn’t think his side were very good saying, ‘we looked jaded.’

He went on to speculate that maybe he should have made changes from the Tuesday night side but, like the Gaffer says, it is so difficult to change a winning team.

‘I wasn’t best pleased with it (the game),’ Warney said, ‘but to come away with three points is testament to the lads. I did think we created enough opportunities to win the game but then we conceded enough to lose the game. If you’re a neutral you must have love it. But that level of performance isn’t enough to get us where we want to be.’

The players definitely weren’t their usual selves in the first half. They looked leggy and time and again were on the back foot. I thought we did much better in the second half and could have had more goals but, as the Gaffer rightly says, Burton could easily have nicked one if not all three points.

Warney went on to say, ‘I thought the fans stayed with the team really well today which I do appreciate. We weren’t at our sharpest today. But it’s all about winning games and that’s what we’ve done.’

I still think there is a lot of emotion running around the club – it’s been a busy few days for the management with new players coming in plus all that’s been happening away from the football pitch.

On to a Friday night trip to Lincoln where Sincil Bank should be rocking.

My thought originally was we’ve brought him back to sell him in January. As that didn’t happen I’m not sure why he did it to be honest. Great result on Saturday when we were under the kosh a little I think – here’s to keeping it going.
