Rotherham United were three-two winners against Burton Albion yesterday at the New York Stadium with Millers Manager Paul Warne saying he didn’t think the team were ‘at their sharpest’.
And that’s true. But the Millers had to fight for those three points yesterday and fight they did.
The stats tell us that the Brewers had fifty-three per cent of possession yesterday afternoon which is six per cent more than Rotherham. Well, that is possibly right. In my mind I thought they were the better team in the first half and we were better in the second. I also thought once we’d finally realised that we had to stop Stephen Quinn we did better – I would think the former Miller loanee would easily have got their Man of the Match vote.
Rotherham had more of the success in the duels than Burton – fifty-six to forty-four over all and sixty-four per cent in the aerial duels. The Millers also had more corners – seven to five.
Our passing accuracy in the opponents half came to forty-nine per cent while both sides over all passing accuracy success was both fifty-six per cent. The fouls conceded stats say that the Millers made eleven fouls to Burton’s seven and both sides had one player yellow carded.
Of the nineteen shots the Millers had seven were deemed to be on target while the Brewers had nine on target from fourteen shots. I thought both ‘keepers made some important saves.
We might not have been at our best but in the end the Millers scored more goals than Burton thanks to two from Michael Smith and one from substitute – and Birthday Boy – Freddie Ladapo.
