Warne ‘No Shame In Losing One-Nil To Norwich’

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne admitted the best team won after the defeat at Carrow Road this afternoon.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield after the one-nil loss against Norwich the Millers Boss said, that in his opinion, Norwich are the best team in the league, saying, ‘We gifted them a goal when the back line looked a bit nervous and I thought we harshly had a goal ruled out in the first half.’

I can only agree. Their goal came when our defence looked as if they’d only just met. It was a bit shambolic beginning when Angus MacDonald completely mess up a chance to play the ball out with Michael Ihiekwe having to try and clean the mess up and stop Pukki but only coming second in the race. A good corner in saw Matt Crooks get the ball in the net but the referee had already blown – after having watched it back three or four times I still can’t honestly say why.

‘I think we grew into the game and finished the first half really well,’ the Gaffer carried on, ‘although we did ride our luck. I think we played with more belief in the second half. We hit the crossbar and although Norwich also had chances they weren’t clear cut ones.’

Again I can only agree. I thought we started the second half well and with more energy and the shot from Ben Wiles that hit the crossbar, well, if that had gone in who knows what might have happened.

‘All in all,’ Warney said, ‘I’m pleased with the performance levels but disappointed with the result. But there is no shame in losing one-nil to Norwich.’

At least we didn’t go to sit back and hope for a goalless draw. We did try to get forward and we played some nice football in parts but we’ve got to defend from the minute that first whistle goes. Did we miss Richard Wood? That’s probable I think.

I’m hearing that Matt Crooks, who had treatment on the pitch before being replaced, has took a knock to his ankle and it’s hoped he will be OK for Tuesday night. Fingers crossed.
