Warne ‘Game Wasn’t A Classic’

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne said the game ‘wasn’t a classic’ this afternoon but couldn’t fault the effort his players put in.

Speaking after the one-nil loss at the bet365 Stadium, the Millers Boss told
iFOLLOW that he thought Stoke City looked sharper but didn’t think his ‘keeper, Jamal Blackman, had any proper saves to make.

Apologising to the squad Warney also thought he’d ‘messed up’ saying he probably should have made more changes than the two he did to freshen things up saying, ‘but I didn’t want to make too many changes when they played so well in mid-week.

‘We didn’t create enough in the final third and I don’t think Stoke created enough against us either to justify their win. It’s disappointing that we didn’t take anything from the game. But it shows how far we’ve come when we think we should be coming to Stoke and taking something home with us.’

As the Gaffer says, I don’t think there was much between the two sides, but, once again, I thought we passed the ball in front of goal when perhaps we could have had a shot.

‘I tried to freshen things up with the three subs,’ Warne went on to say, ‘but they didn’t have the impact we wanted. But if we are going to have a great season then we need to be picking up points even when we aren’t at our best. We weren’t at our best today but I think we did enough to get a draw.’

On the injury front it’s not looking too good for Shaun MacDonald who it looks like will be having a scan on the knee injury that forced him off the pitch today. Let’s hope that’s only precautionary as he’s been one of our main players so far this season.
