Rotherham United travelled to take on Stoke City yesterday and, let’s be honest, it was a pretty poor performance from both teams.
The Millers actually had ten per cent more of the possession than the hosts although the Potter did have a better percentage of the duels. Stoke also had seven corners to Rotherham’s two as well as eight shots at goal of which three were on target. Rotherham had seven shots at goal none of which made the City ‘keeper take as much as a dive.
Our passing accuracy came out at sixty-four per cent of which forty-nine of that was in our opponents half and our four hundred and four passes which was eighty-two more than our hosts – of course, it all depends what you were doing with those passes which, I fear, in some cases was passing instead of shooting.
Stoke conceded sixteen fouls to our fourteen and the Millers had two players red carded to their one.
In his post match interview The Gaffer thought we deserved something from the game – to get something from the game it helps if you shoot at goal, we can’t spend the season hoping to get penalties every game.
I do think Stoke made it difficult for us without actually making many chances for themselves and I don’t think we sat back, we did have players out there who worked hard there is no denying that.
I do think our passing has improved from the last couple of seasons and we do try and win the ball back when we’ve lost it, which is something we definitely didn’t do in our last outing in the Championship.
But, we do need goals. And to get goals you have to have shots towards the net. You have to make the opposition goalie work for his money. I feel like we seem to need to take an extra touch, an extra pass when it’s not needed.
Two home games next – and I know it’s early in the season and I don’t want to put pressure on but getting maximum points from these games would really help wouldn’t they.
