Rotherham United Manager Matt Taylor couldn’t have been anything but pleased after today’s performance in the Millers home win against promotion hopefuls Blackburn Rovers.

Speaking after the four-nil win to Radio Sheffield the Millers Boss said it hadn’t felt good for the last six weeks or so talking to the press after games but it felt good today. ‘We had the early goal which gave us belief. We were ugly at times and we competed well keeping a good team at arms length.’

The Millers were one-up in just over thirty seconds with Matt saying, ‘It was a really clean strike and you could see what it did to the place as a whole. It gave us a real boost and we grew in confidence as the game went on. It wasn’t pretty at times but it was exactly what we needed to do.

‘It’s the first time I’ve been able to change the shape today with Shane (Ferguson) and Chieo (Ogbene) fully fit, with the introduction of Sean (Morrison) and re-introduction of Lee Peltier settled us down.

‘Our first two goals were real quality strikes and at this level the first goal is key.

‘We had to withstand a bit of pressure from the opposition and they might have troubled us today but they didn’t really hurt us. There was some real quality on show from Blackburn today but generally we put them under enough pressure to force a few errors.

‘If we want to be sustainable in this league we have to build on this performance. I know how we want to play at home, how we should play, how we need to play and that involves an up-and-at-’em style where we make it horrible for the opposition

‘We can’t underestimate how we are feeling right now.’

Asked about the two debutants Sean Morrison and Leo Hjelde the Millers Boss said, ‘I was pleased. Sean’s headers at set-pieces or getting in there with his size, presence and experience on the pitch and I thought Leo’s legs were good quality. He created the first goal and I think there’s more to come from him.’
