Smith Wins Award

Rotherham United striker Michael Smith has won the January’s Sky Bet League One Player of the Month.

Smudge made six appearances for the Millers in January and scored five goals – two on New Years Day in our home win over Bolton, two more in League One wins over Cheltenham and Crewe Alexandra plus one in the Papa John’s Trophy win away at Crewe.

The now thirty year old joined the Millers in January 2018 from Bury and has so far played in one hundred and ninety-one games scoring fifty-six times – twenty of those, so far, this season.

Michael is well on his way to the twenty-five goals that Assistant Manager Richie Barker has said he needs to get this season for him to hand over his prized possession of a signed Alan Shearer Newcastle United shirt, both being big fans of the former England forward and Magpies number nine.

Will he get the shirt? Well, he’s only five goals to go and there’s plenty of games coming up!

This is his second League One Player of the Month award this season his first coming in October where he scored five goals and had two assists in five games
