Rotherham United Assistant Caretaker Manager, Paul Warne says that they have had tonight`s opponents, Lincoln City, watched.
‘We’ve had them watched a couple of times,’ he told MillersPlayer, ‘and we’ve spoken to their chief scout.
‘It’s come to the stage of the season where we need a result from what happened last week and, we aren’t too concerned about the way they play, because if we play to the strength we’ve got in our team then we’ll be alright. And, if they play to the tempo that me and Andy want then we will be hard to play against.’
Speaking about Lincoln’s Ashley Grimes, Warney said, ‘I know he’s good but we won’t be setting out a team just to stop Grimes playing we will be setting out a team to be positive and forward thinking and energetic. Obviously, he’s going to have touches on the ball but I think our players are more than capable of dealing with him.’
He was asked if he’d spoken to Ronnie Moore since he went and Warney said, ‘Yes, I’ve spoken to him and Jimmy (Mullen) and they said if I need any advice I can speak to them. I’ve watched the DVD of Lincoln last week and I know the way we want to play but I might give Ronnie a call later on and wish him all the best.
‘I’m just looking forward to the next nine games to see where it takes us. It might take us nowhere but we’ll have a good crack.’
Meanwhile, Caretaker Manager, Andy Liddell said he is confident that his team will go to Lincoln and give them a good game.
‘After they’ve seen the last result their management staff will know we are going there to give a good performance of ourselves. But it won’t be easy. All over the league, apart from Chesterfield, the teams are all evenly matched so anyone can beat anyone.
‘It’s a great game for me, Paul Warne, Nicky Eaden and Andy Dibble to start off with. But, it wouldn’t really matter where it was because we just want the players to be positive and give everything they’ve got. I can take players making mistakes because nobody made more mistakes than me, but what I won’t take is lack of effort and commitment. Unfortunately for the players, that’s what me and Paul based our careers on – hard work, commitment and a bit of good play as well, though not from him obviously from me because he was a lot worse than me! If I see what I saw in the behind closed doors there won’t be a problem and the fans will see that because fans aren’t stupid. They want to see football players run and bust a gut until they drop and then when they’ve done that take them off and put somebody else on to do exactly the same thing.’
