Rotherham United goalkeeper Andy Warrington has told The Advertiser that he should have done better for Martin Gritton’s header on Tuesday night at Moss Rose.

‘We weren’t happy at the free kick being given which led to the goal,’ the experienced shot stopper said, ‘but the fact is we didn’t defend it properly and that includes myself. I should have given myself a better chance by staying on my line.

‘Macclesfield came at us in the second half but we know these are games we should be winning

‘We were all gutted in the dressing room after the final whistle. OK, we came home with a point, but we know we had dropped two.

‘We’ve had a couple of games where our standard has dropped. We are trying to do the right things but it’s not coming off. That’s what’s costing us.

‘We know we weren’t good last Saturday at Barnet – we were a bit better on Tuesday but disappointed not to kick on when we went one up.

‘We have to start and take our chances.’
