RUFC – Cresswell ‘love playing here’

Rotherham United drafted in nineteen years old Ryan Cresswell to help ease the injury situation at Millmoor, and to give him first team experience, and it has made the young defenders dream come true.

Having stood on The Tivoli from the age of seven and watching manager, Mark Robins play he told The Advertiser that working alongside him has made his realise how good he still is.

‘I loved watching the gaffer as a striker and working with him has made me see the good and the bad sides of him!’

Ryan signed for Sheffield United at the age of fourteen and said, ‘Things haven’t gone to bad for me there and I’ve played regularly in the reserves. I’ve trained with the first team three times a week but never really got a chance and when they got Ryan Cahill on loan for three months I opted to go out on loan. Hopefully, playing for the Millers, who I will give one hundred percent for while I’m here, will make me a better player when I get back to Bramall Lane.’

He said the early booking he got at Barnet last week was probably more due to the fans getting on the referee’s back than what he actually did.

‘The pitch at Barnet was hard to play on but I don’t want to make excuses. There is enough quality in the side but not enough determination – they were quicker than us all over the pitch and we couldn’t break down their defence.

‘I have never played alongside bigger and stronger centre halves than Graham Coughlan and Ian Sharps. We have got the physical attributes we have just got to get the ball down and play football.’

So, would Cresswell like to stop at Millmoor permanently if the chance came?

‘I’d like to see how it goes first,’ he said. ‘Living in Swinton there is a lot of Rotherham fans around and they don’t hesitate to tell you how they think you played! Training is good here and the training ground is on my doorstep and I just love this club.’

Ryan has had his loan spell extended up to the maximum of ninety-three days.
