Rotherham United Reserves 3 v Derby County Reserves 1

Rotherham United Reserves came from one behind to win this Totesport.com, Central Division game this evening at Don Valley.

The visitors dominated the first forty-five minutes of this game and could have been one up in the opening minutes when, with Jamie Annerson left flat-footed in the Millers goal, Callum Ball hit the post. But the Rams did go in front on twelve minutes when Ball, with acres of space, turned and hit the ball in the net from twelve yards out. Ben Pringle had two long ranged shots at goal while Euen Holden and Ball both tested Annerson who produced good saves, while, at the other end, Paul Warne and Tom Elliott had shots blocked. Ollie Banks had a shot at goal from some thirty yards out which, after getting a deflection, landed just wide of the post.

Derby came out for the second half much like they played the first and, early on, Ryan Noble headed just wide and minutes later Liam Royles, on for Warne, did well to get in the way of a shot from Ball to turn it round the post for a corner. Then the Millers hit Derby on the break when Ryan Taylor received the ball from Marcus Marshall in the area and calmly slotted it past Severn in the Rams goal. Ten minutes later Annerson had to be alert to get down to a shot from Noble and parry it out while Severn, at the other end, did well to keep out a low shot from Royles which then rebounded to Taylor but his shot went way over the crossbar. Then came a bit of Stephen Brogan magic, as he skipped past two Derby defenders and curled in a fantastic ball which sailed past Severn to give the Millers the lead. And, in the final minute of the game, Brogan added a third when he unleashed a thunderbolt of a shot into the net from a point blank cross from Taylor.
