RUFC Players In

There`s been a lot of concern and criticism on social media over the last few days, following the club`s unsuccessful transfer dealings. Whilst some, in my opinion, are valid, some aren`t.

Let`s not kid ourselves. Without the Stewart family intervention there wouldn`t be a Rotherham United. Everyone has a limit on how deep their pockets are. I`m not suggesting for a second that the directors are pulling back. Indeed, the signing of Alan Stubbs seemed to have rekindled enthusiasm. But, as in all things, there`s a limit. How many times in the last 3 years have we signed players that barely played and contracts terminated. Players that we paid money for: Bowery, Tidser and Worall that walked away without any sell on? For a club like ours, I don`t think that policy was sustainable. The revolving door had to stop.

What concerns me most now is how much the club will have to pay to recruit. Some fans “demand” to know how much a player`s transfer fee is. Be careful what you wish for!


The very public chase of Bradshaw and Gregory including statements that the club`s transfer record may be broken twice could have left us staring down the barrel of a gun. Confidentiality can be a good thing.

Agents now know!
1. How much RUFC were prepared to offer
2. That their client was possibly 3rd choice
3. The club has lost out on initial choices and is vulnerable ( I don`t like desperate)
4. The value of their client has now risen. What would`ve been £250,000 is now £400,000

Now, if we`re serious about the trialists lets get one or two of them signed up. Or are they hesitating now? I liked the CV`s on a couple of these players. They could be hungry enough to take a step back to bring their careers forward again.

To the supporters I say: Be patient, the directors have delivered previously, why not this time? In addition, the new boss has to put his “little black book” to work.

To the directors I say: Tell us when we`ve broken the record and introduce the player. Now give us something to cheer about please. Also how can some fans appear to be “in the know” and name players? Security please!
