Gornik Zabrze 0-0 Rotherham United

Rotherham United ended their tour of Poland with a goalless draw against Gornik Zabrze.

A strong Millers team took to the pitch this evening and although it was a slow start it was Danny Ward and Lee Frecklington who combined well before a home defender cleared. The first real chance for Gornik Zabrze came on twenty-seven minutes with a shot that didn’t bother Lee Camp in the Millers goal. A minute later the visitors had a good chance when a ball found Jerry Yates in the area but he just couldn’t get the ball down and it went over the bar. But the first real effort of the game came with ten minutes to go of the first half when a pass from Yates found Ward but Gornik Zabrze ‘keeper did well to get down to the shot and minutes later it was Ward again who brought off a good save from a free-kick.

The second half was around ten minutes old when Anthony Forde got by two defenders to get a ball into the area which was put behind for a corner while a pass a few minutes later from Richie Smallwood found Dawson who saw the home ‘keeper get his fingertips to his shot. Two yellows in a couple of minutes saw Grendel get the first for sending Kirk Broadfoot sprawling and then Smallwood for taking the free-kick before the ref said he could (in a friendly, really?) Before being replaced by Bailey-King, Greg Halford had a shot which he saw blocked while Tom Thorpe saw a header go over before a shot from Broadfoot was cleared by a home defender.
