Rotherham Reserves 2 Hartlepool Reserves 3

Two young Reserve sides played out a five goal thriller this afternoon at a warm and sunny Roundwood.

The Millers went in front on eight minutes when Hames took the advantage of some poor defending to use the room to put a header into the net. The ‘Pool ‘keeper, Michael Roxburgh, brought off a good save five minutes later to stop Harrison doubling the hosts lead but could do nothing on twenty-five minutes when McGuckin made it two-nil to Rotherham. A minute later the visitors halved the deficit when Drew Lake sent a shot in from the edge of the box to make it two-one. And it could have been two-two if Millers’ ‘keeper Ellis and defender Hanley hadn’t been alert to keep ‘Pool out before a super curling effort from distance saw Salah’s shot for the Millers smash against the crossbar before going out to safety.

Twelve minutes into the second half the visitors drew level after a short corner routine found Charlie Hindson who shot into the net. On the hour mark a back-heel from substitute Nyika for the hosts went just wide and a minute later the visitors took the lead when a rebounded ball found Drew Lake who stuck the ball in the net.
