Vital Rotherham are sad to hear the news of former Rotherham United central defender John Haselden has died.

Born in Doncaster John began his football career at Millmoor in 1961 going on to make just under one hundred appearances. 1968 saw him move ‘home’ joining Doncaster Rovers staying at Belle Vue until 1974 while having a short loan spell with Mansfield Town during the 1971/2 season.

In 1977 John became a physiotherapist/coach with Huddersfield Town and was soon named as caretaker manager when Tom Johnson left and later became Assistant Manager under Mick Buxton. After helping the Terriers to a couple of promotions 1986 saw Town let John go to help with the wage bill.  He then joined the coaching staff at Reading where he had a few weeks as caretaker manager leaving in 1993 to join Nottingham Forest while also having a spell with Notts County.  In 2014 John was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
