Rotherham United’s Head Coach Leam Richardson was disappointed for his players after coming back from three-one down to looking likely to get a draw only to be thwarted at the last hurdle at Ipswich last night.

‘We’ve come to a really good functioning Ipswich side who are doing very well,’ Richardson told Radio Sheffield after the four-three loss, ‘but our performance levels were there for all to see and, in the second half, we dominated in large parts.

‘We started the game terrifically well and all of a sudden we took a backwards step and their first goal affected us too much which then led to goals two and three. But then the response was excellent. To score three goals away from home you’d like to think you don’t lose the game but then to concede like we did it’s heart-retching for the players.

‘We won our first penalty in thirty plus games, we hit the post and we had a really good chance to go and win the game at three-three and then they go up the other end and score which is disappointing.

‘I think you saw the good, the bad and the ugly of us tonight but I do feel that the players can take a lot of pride from their performance.’

Concerning from last night was Ollie Rathbone having to be taken off, although sitting up, on a medi-buggy with Leam saying, ‘He was shoved, though I don’t think it was intentional, into the LED boards and looks like it could be a bit of concussion he’s got.’

What of Seb Revan who wasn’t in the travelling squad? ‘He felt something after the game on Saturday in his hip flexor so he is getting that looked at medically. We aren’t sure how long he’ll be out.’

And on the one hundred and forty-five who made the trip to Portman Road? ‘We know how expensive it is to go round the country watching your football team and a Tuesday night at Ipswich isn’t easy. But we are always appreciative of all the supporters who follow us around the country. It’s always easy to support your team when they are doing well but when they aren’t doing so well it’s easy to be critical. So a special thanks to the fans here tonight.’
