Richardson ‘Not Good Enough’

Rotherham United Head Coach Leam Richardson told Sky Sports that he ‘feels for the fans’ after relegation was finally confirmed last night.

‘From pre-season, to the first game and onwards I think this club has been chasing it’s tail a little bit and the writing’s been on the wall for some time. It’s a tough pill to swallow right now but, as personally, as a club, we’ve been there before and always come back stronger.

‘It’s now important that we come together all around the football club. To run with, I think, sixty-four per cent availability of the squad for a large part of the time in the Championship is a tough challenge.

‘There were many things out of my control when I came in which we are trying to take control of to move forward. I spoke to the Chairman two weeks after I came here giving him my views and there’s nothing that hasn’t happened that we didn’t speak about and going forward together I’m sure we’ll be stronger.’

The Boss then spoke to Radio Sheffield saying, ‘We weren’t good enough tonight.

‘The game was very stop-start and I think they (Plymouth) shaded it in both boxes which is the most disappointing thing. But on the basis of right here, right now, with the emotion of results and the inevitable relegation, it’s a tough one to take. I don’t think anybody but Viktor (Johansson) and possibly one or two others can take any credit for the game live on sky, under the lights for your own fans and I’m as frustrated as any Rotherham fan. I want to put this right and can’t wait to put it right.

‘It’s now important as a football club that we are pro-active as a football club and not re-active which I think we have been for a period of time.’

Asked about the playing staff, Leam said, ‘You want to know who wants to be here, you want to know whose committed to the football club.’
