Rotherham United start this season’s campaign off with a Carabao Cup game away at Salford City where James Oldham from Derbyshire has the whistle.

In the past James has won the Derbyshire County FA Referee of the Year in 2016 and again jointly the year after. At the end of the 2018/19 season he was in the middle for the National Conference Play-Off Final at Wembley, which Salford won three-nil.

This is just the second time James has been in the middle for a Millers game, the first being in November last year in the Football League Trophy game at Sincil Bank where both teams made changes from their previous league games. Lincoln City, who had to win by four clear goals, were awarded a penalty on just twelve minutes after Matthew Olosunde fouled Tom Pett in the area and John Akinde put the spot-kick beyond Lewis Price into the net. Two minutes later Akinde scored the Imps and his second of the game with substitute Tyler Walker making it three just before full-time. Olosunde and Price saw yellow on the night.

Last season James for in the middle for twenty-six League One and League Two games showing eighty-two yellow and five red, one of those being to former Miller David Worrall who was playing for Port Vale.

Running the line at the Peninsula Stadium we have Gareth Mellor and Peter Gooch while Aaron Jackson is the Fourth Official.
