Rotherham United welcome West Bromwich Albion for a Tuesday night game when Sam Barrott from West Yorkshire is the referee.

This is the third time this season Sam has been at the New York Stadium the first being at the beginning of September when Norwich City were in town. Rotherham surprised the Canaries that afternoon when goals from Dexter Lembikisa and Jordan Hugill put them two up in forty minutes. City pulled one back in the first minutes of the second half but the Millers managed to hold on for their first three points of the campaign. Sam booked Ollie Rathbone and Hugill with one yellow card shown to the visitors. The last time was last month when QPR were the visitors which saw Ilias Chair put Rangers in front on fifty minutes but a Georgie Kelly volley twenty minutes later gave the Millers a point.

Previously Sam was in charge of our Championship game at home to Bristol City last season which saw a Wes Harding own goal open the scoring for our visitors. Chieo Ogbene equalised on twenty-five minutes but five minutes later Joe Williams put City back in front and a second-half goal from Cameron Pring gave the Robins a three-one win. Sam showed five yellow cards that afternoon one of those going to Richard Wood.

The season before Sam was in the middle for two of the Millers games the last one being the final game of the season against Gillingham at Priestfield. Goals from Rarmani Edmonds-Green and ‘super sub’ Georgie Kelly saw not only a two-nil win for Rotherham but also promotion. Wes Harding, Richard Wood and Kelly were booked that day.

Before that Sam was in charge of our Papa John’s Trophy game in October 2022 when a Manchester City U21 side were at the New York Stadium. Goalless at half-time the Millers took charge of the second half with Will Grigg scoring six minutes in. This was followed by a hat-trick from Kieran Sadlier and Jake Hull getting his second senior goal in a red and white shirt. Sam showed yellow cards to Millers players Curtis Durose, Joshua Kayode. Mackenzie Warne and Sadlier plus Shea Charles of the City team.

In the seventeen games Sam has been in the middle for this season he has shown sixty-one yellow cards and two red cards.

Running the line on Tuesday night we have Jonathan Hunt and Blake Antrobus with James Bell the Fourth Official.
