Rotherham United have announced former Wigan Athletic manager Leam Richardson as the new Head Coach and has signed a deal with the Millers until the summer of 2026.

The Millers have been without a permanent manager since Matt Taylor was sacked in November with Richardson taking over a Rotherham side who are next to bottom of the Championship with just thirteen points.

Born in Leeds forty-three year old Leam was a defender in his playing days with the likes of Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Blackpool and Accrington Stanley.

And it was at Stanley where he cut his teeth in the management game, firstly as Caretaker Manager when John Coleman left, Assistant to Paul Cook a month later and when he left for Chesterfield, Leam was named Manager in November 2012. In April the next year he joined Cook at Chesterfield as his assistant before doing the same at Portsmouth where they won promotion to League One in 2017. A few weeks later the pair joined the Latics with Leam made caretaker manager in 2020 and was given the job permanently in April 2021. He was the EFL League One Manager of the Year for the 2021/2 season and helped Wigan into the Championship that season. After signing a new three year deal in October 2022 a month later he was sacked.

All at Vital Rotherham welcome Leam to the New York Stadium.
