The Stats – Millers v Swans

|

Rotherham United came from one down but couldn’t hang on at home to Swansea City losing the game two-one yesterday.

But what do those stats say?

Possession wise the Swans had seventy per cent and they were the better of the ariel duels winning fifty-five per cent of them. Of the seventeen corners given the Millers won six of them.

Our passing accuracy in our opponents half came out at forty-six per cent, thirty per cent less than our visitors and overall sixty-two per cent.

In attack the Millers had seven shots on goal, five of those from inside the box, of which three were on target while the Swans had nine on target from nineteen shots.

Our tackle success rate was eighty-five per cent, City’s twenty-nine per cent with both teams conceding nine fouls and it was three each on yellow cards with one Miller getting a red.

I’ve seen a lot of people saying that the Millers didn’t play well – for the first fifteen minutes I thought we played some of the best football this season and Swansea were on the back foot.  That changed when we went down to ten men and for the rest of the half we just couldn’t get any sort of shape and yet it was somewhat of a freak goal (and after seeing it back, no-one will convince me that it was anything other than a hand that put that ball in the net) that saw our visitors go in at half-time one up.  We managed to ‘arrange’ ourselves coming out for the second half and got an equaliser, again a freakish one with Nombe stood in the right place at the right time (but isn’t that what makes good strikers?).  I thought we then defended well and with Viktor’s help managed to keep them at bay until a slip allowed former Miller Jerry Yates in to make it two-one to City. But we didn’t give in – we bombarded them from the air but couldn’t quite find that finish and that’s why we sit here on a Sunday morning the strongest team in the league, holding everyone else up.
