Next up in Rotherham United’s busy schedule is a home game against Coventry City when Jarred Gillett from Australia has the whistle.

Born in Queensland, Jarred was an A-League Referee in Australia from 2010 to 2019, refereeing five Hyundai A-League Grand Finals as well as being named the Hyundai A-League Referee of the Year five times. He was also part of the Asian Football Confederation Project Future referees programme which saw him visit the Premier League in 2010. His first game as an A-League Referee was in the 2010-11 season and in April 2017 he was appointed as one of the inaugural Video Assistant Referees.

He has also officiated in the J-League, the Indian Super League, the Chinese Super League and the Saudi Professional League and a the 2015 International Champions Cup before moving to England to take up a post-doctoral research position at Liverpool John Moores University.

We first met Jarred in October for our local derby with Sheffield Wednesday at the New York Stadium which was a great win three-nil win for the Millers with two goals from Jamie Lindsay and a Dan Barlaser penalty all in the first half as well as a red card for the Owls’ Tom Lees.

The last time he was in charge of a Millers game was in December at Ewood Park. Michael Smith put Rotherham in front but goals from Harvey Elliott and Adam Armstrong in the last ten minutes of the game gave Blackburn Rovers all three points. Michael Ihiekwe, Jamie Lindsay and Billy Jones were shown yellow cards for the Millers that evening as well as two for the Rovers players.

Of the twenty-seven games Jarred has been in the middle for this season he has shown eighty-five yellow cards and two red cards.

Running the line on Thursday night we have Paul Hodskinson and Philip Dermott and Darren Bond will be the Fourth Official.
