‘Project Restart’

Rotherham United might have moved a little closer to re-starting the season today with the Premier League talking of ‘Project Restart’ and planning meetings between the top-flight clubs in hopes of re-starting the 2019/20 season in June.

The BBC expects the games to be played behind closed doors in stadiums yet to be discussed.

With more than 20,000 people in the UK having sadly died because of the coronavirus that stopped English football in March and there will be five tests to be met before football can re-start – these are making sure that the NHS is in a good position to cope, a constant fall in the daily rate of death due to COVID-19, the rate of infection being on the decrease, ensuring that the supply of tests and Personal Protective Equipment can meet any future demand and the confidence that there won’t be any risk of a second peak of the virus.

The Premier League are hoping for an 8th June re-start and having the season finished by the end of July and that training can start in mid-May.

I know we are all missing our football but I think we all only want to see it return when it’s safe to do so. Yes, if it does return as early as June it will, undoubtedly, be behind closed doors but there is still such a lot of staff that will need to be around the stadium. A lot of us Millers fans have already said that football without fans will be like when we played out in the wilderness that was Don Valley Stadium but it will be much worse than that.

Personally, I’d be surprised if football training will start again next month – this country, like many others, is still in lockdown. For me, that means everybody should be in lockdown, meaning nobody, (except, obviously, for our key workers), should be meeting – football might be important to us fans but not that important.

Keep Safe.

Up The Millers.
