Potted History Of Solihull Moors

|

Rotherham United’s next game is in the FA Cup when they travel to the SportNation.bet Stadium (Damson Park) to take on National League side Solihull Moors.

The club were founded in 2007 when Moor Green and Solihull Borough merged and originally shared their ground with Rugby Union side Pertemps Bees although that ended in 2012.

The Moors began their football life in the Conference North finishing the 2007/8 season in seventeenth place.

In the 2011/12 season Solihull reached the Birmingham Senior Cup for the very first time, losing two-nil at the Hawthorns to West Brom and at the end of the 2015/16 they were promoted to the National League as Champions of the Conference North and also won the Birmingham Senior Cup beating Birmingham two-one at St Andrews.

Their first season in the National League saw them get to the First Round proper of the FA Cup for the first time beating Yeovil in a replay on penalties before losing away at Luton Town six-two. The Moors finished sixteenth in the National League.

June 2018 saw former Wolves, Southampton, Blackburn and Leicester goalkeeper Tim Flowers take over as Manager of Solihull Moors and last season he led them to second place in the National League but saw them lose in the semi-finals of the play-offs to Fylde.

Former Miller’s loanee Gavin Gunning joined the West Midlands side in September on a short-term deal.
