Play-Offs To Be As Soon As Practically Possible

Although nobody yet knows if football will return to complete the season or not it seems there will be play-off games to decide the third team to be promoted in Leagues One and Two and it is looking likely that the finals will be played at Wembley.

With teams having players whose contracts finish on 30th June the English Football League are planning to hold the League One and Two play-offs as soon as possible.

A meeting between the EFL clubs is set for 8th June to talk about how to end the season early with the ‘framework’ already in place which the clubs have to approve.

I can’t see Portsmouth or Peterborough agreeing to anything but finishing the season with Posh Director Barry Fry telling the Peterborough Telegraph, ‘The only fair way to resolve this season in League One is to play it out. It’s too tight to be settled on points-per-game and that’s the case for relegation as well as promotion issues. How can it be right to promote Rotherham when they are just as likely to drop out of the play-off places as they are to go up automatically? Rotherham would be getting away with murder in those circumstances.’

I really think all this should have been sorted out three or four weeks ago – it’s just turning into a mass virtual brawl. I expect if the Millers do get promoted on the points-per-game every time we get a mention next season it will always be followed by words meaning ‘but they shouldn’t have gone up anyway.’ I’m beginning to wish they’d play the end of the bl**dy season just to shut certain people up.

Stay Safe.

Caz, I think I stated to you months ago that a ppg approach was the only sensible one. Coventry and the Millers will be promoted. I am extremely pleased. Do I think we would have secured second spot had coronavirus not happened? Personally, I do not. I felt the wheels were starting to come off a little. Do I care? No. We have more points than anyone other than Coventry and the rest can only be speculation. I predicted in early January the season would not be completed and that it was therefore absolutely vital we didn’t fall out of second place. We didn’t. Job done. UTM.

You certainly did Kevin. I was at first bemused now annoyed that other teams’ ‘leaders’ are putting the boot into Rotherham. I’m pleased that Tony Stewart and Paul Warne have kept out of the argument.
