Rotherham United kick-off their pre-season friendlies with a trip to take on local side Parkgate at Roundwood on Saturday, 10th July.

Parkgate FC was established in 1969 and called BSC Parkgate and joined the, then, Sheffield and Hallamshire County Senior League. In 1974, the club joined the Yorkshire Football League Division Three. In 1982 the Yorkshire Football League merged with Midland League and became the Northern Counties East Football League.

1990 saw a name change when they became RES Parkgate dropping the RES four years later.

In the past, Parkgate have been Northern Counties East Division One Champions (2006/7) and, in the same season, they won the Wilkinson Sword Trophy. In 1983/4 and again in 1998/9 they were the Rotherham Charity Cup winners and have three times been runners up in the Sheffield and Hallamshire Senior Cup.

Last season the Steelmen, managed by former player Andy Dawson, were in the Northern Counties East Football League Division One with the season being curtailed due to Covid-19.

The last time the pair met in a friendly was in 2019 which was a seven-nil win for the Millers. Joshua Kayode opened the scoring with two from Matt Crooks and Michael Smith making it four-nil at half-time. Jamie Proctor scored two in the second-half, one from the penalty spot with Carlton Morris getting the seventh.

This is an all ticket game with all tickets being sold and both clubs politely ask that you don’t travel if you haven’t got a ticket. For those with a ticket gates at Roundwood will open at 11am with the game kicking-off at 1pm.
